Dwyane Wade Sells New Family Comedy To FOX Titled 'A Father First'!

Comedy News

Dwyane Wade has made 343 threes in a career that has sent him to nine NBA All-Star Games, but his next attempt will put him on an entirely different court.

Mike Tollin, Wade and Sony Pictures Television has sold half hour comedy project “Three the Hard Way” to Fox, based on Wade’s life as a single dad.

Wade (whose Twitter account is headed by the word “Three”) will exec produce with Tollin and Mandalay Sports Media, as well as Justin Lin, Danielle Woodrow and Troy Craig Poon of Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Fellow exec producer Ben Watkins (“Burn Notice”) is writing the pilot script, which will tell the story of an NBA superstar named Daryl Wade and his eccentric entourage, who find themselves parenting by committee when the lead gets full custody of his two young sons.

The show is inspired by Wade’s book, “A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball,” in which he talks about parenting his two sons and recounting his own growing-up years and rise to the NBA elite.

“Three the Hard Way” is the first television development project for Wade’s ZZ Prods, and it’s also the first comedy series for Perfect Storm in its deal with Sony. Since launching its TV arm in April, Perfect Storm has been developing projects including “Aloha” for Fox  and Sony, from Shawn Ryan (“The Shield”) and Davey Holmes (“Shameless”).
