His late-night show on Comedy Central canceled, Larry Wilmore has inked a multi-year overall deal with ABC Studios that will see the writer/producer develop his own series for the network, as well as shepherd those created by others.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Larry Wilmore back to ABC Studios,” said ABC Studios President Patrick Moran. “We worked closely with Larry while we were developing “black-ish” and are looking forward to what’s coming next from this incredibly talented writer/producer.”

“I’m excited beyond words to be back at ABC and look forward to this creative partnership,” Wilmore said. “Disney took a chance on me as a young writer years ago and so I’m thrilled to return to the Mouse House. I hope my room still looks the same.”

Wilmore who worked with series creator Kenya Barris on “Black-ish” during its early stages, before going on to host his nightly show on Comedy Central, is also co-creator with star Issa Rae of HBO’s new comedy series, “Insecure,” which has been renewed for a second season.

No details at this time on potential series Wilmore might develop for ABC. But he joins other African American creatives who have overall deals with ABC, including of course Shonda Rhimes, as well as Kenya Barris, John Ridley, Kerry Washington and Viola Davis.

Wilmore is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and attorney Tom Hoberman.
