Comedy News

According to several industry outlets, we hear that Comedy Central stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, best known for hit sketch comedy show Key & Peele, have signed on to produce New Line Cinema’s Police Academy reboot. Our sources have told us that even though they are not signed on to star yet, that the characters are still being developed in the script with that in mind.

The sites are also reporting that the film’s original producer Paul Maslansky is back on board for the film which is a comedy series about a crazy and hilarious group of police recruits who eventually sign up for the police academy who just can’t seem to get it together or get along actually end up banding together to save the city when faced with adversity.

If you happened to see the original film, it starred Steve Guttenberg as Mahoney, the group’s leader. The film was released in 1984 by Warner Brothers, and repeatedly pushed the envelope with several raunchy comedic scenes. Police Academy spawned a series of films and a television series that eventually grossed a combined $242 million worldwide.

New Line is producing the film, with Sam Brown is overseeing for the studio. First-time director Scott Zabielski, who was attached to the project in 2012, is no longer on board.
