Shockingly, of the more than 3-dozen replies to my “Cast This” post earlier this week (with regards to the announced Lifetime Original Movie on the early years of the relationship between Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown), only one of you mentioned Yaya DaCosta (although I believe she goes by Yaya Alafia now, since getting married to filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia in 2012).
According to several reports, it looks like actor and comedian Marlon Wayans is heading to TBS for a brand new comedy competition.
This seems like a perfect fit for Wayans because he is getting a first looks at a lot of comedians as he is also the founding partner of Whatthefunny.com which is a website that premieres stand up and sketches of comedians.
Wayans, who is teaming up with the Turner network for this new show for the series that is set to launch this summer tentatively titled Funniest Wins.
As of this writing, Wayans, several other members of the family and their friends will be on a search to find new comedy talent for at least eight episodes. Each week will see a group of comedians whittled down until one is ultimately crowned winner, with the winner having a chance to star in an online series on Whatthefunny.com.

As we mentioned in several articles including a posting we did last night, The Arsenio Hall Show debuted last night with several guests including Chris Tucker and Snoop Doggy Dog. To no one’s surprise, it seems that America was watching too as The Arsenio Hall Show was the most watched late night show last night.
According to The Hollywood Reporter;
The host launched his self-titled talker from CBS Television Distribution with wins in both the adults 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, besting original competition in Big Four efforts Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night With David Letterman and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
Arsenio averaged a 1.0 rating with 18-49-ers and a 1.2 rating with adults 25-54 in Nielsen’s Local People Meter Markets. Both figures top all competition nationwide and in key markets such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. By comparison, Kimmel was closest (0.8 adults 18-49, 1.0 adults 25-54), followed by Letterman (0.7 adults 18-49, 1.0 adults 25-54) and Leno (0.6 adults 18-49, 0.9 adults 25-54).
The households average for Arsenio nearly doubled year-ago time period averages with a 1.9 rating and 4 share for Tribune Broadcasting nets.
All of this sounds like Arsenio is off to a great start.
The rest of the week should be great too as Arsenio has a heavy line up of guests. Check out the guests;
· Tuesday, Sept. 10: Ice Cube, Lisa Kudrow and musical guest, rapper Mac Miller.
· Wednesday, Sept. 11: Magic Johnson, George Lopez, and musical guest, rapper Nas.
· Thursday, Sept. 12: Actor Mark Harmon from NCIS, magicians Penn & Teller, and musical guest, Earth, Wind, & Fire.
· Friday, Sept. 13: Angela Bassett and Emblem3 as musical guests.
Also expect many surprise guests that will stop by, especially this week when Arsenio is trying to keep those ratings up.

Here is the article from Deadline which broke the story;
NBC has closed a deal for Vanishing Point, a drama from Source Codewrite Ben Ripley, which has Angela Bassett attached to star and co-executive produce. The project, which has received a script commitment with penalty, is a described as a character-driven legal franchise revolving around two women. One, played by Bassett, is a brilliant yet unsympathetic rainmaker at a powerful NYC law firm, whose world is suddenly and permanently upended by a health issue. Facing this crisis, she makes her condition public and vows to continue her practice with the help of a young brilliant attorney she chooses to be her right hand. Sony TV is producing the project, with Ripley executive producing alongside Sony TV-based producers Deborah Spera and Maria Grasso.
Bassett, who just wrapped the feature Olympus Has Fallen, starred in Fox’s Karyn Usher spy drama pilot last season. Gersh reps both Ripley and Bassett. Bassett is managed Lighthouse Entertainment, Ripley by Mosaic Media.
We just discovered some new news about actress Angela Bassett coming to television on ABC– and it comes as a major surprise since word was that Bassett was done with TV after her stint on NBC’s ER.
Anyway, Deadline got the scoop on the story and here it is;
Angela Bassett is set as a lead in ABC’s drama pilot Identity. The project, from ABC Studios, Mark Gordon Co. and writer John Glenn, is an action procedural based on a British format, which centers on an elite police unit formed to combat the explosion of identity-related crime. Bassett will play Martha, the Special Agent in charge of the FBI’s new Identity Crimes Unit. Bronx-tough Vassar graduate from Greenwich, Martha is determined to make a go of this division, using sophisticated technology combined with good old fashioned investigative methods. The casting extends Bassett’s relationship with ABC, ABC Studios and producer Mark Gordon. Earlier this pilot season, she was attached to ABC’s drama project One Police Plaza, which was developed for her through ABC Studios and studio-based Mark Gordon Co. In it, she was slated to play another top New York law enforcement officer, the city’s first female commissioner. Bassett, repped by Gersh and Lighthouse, will next be seen in Jumping the Broom and Green Lantern. On TV, she most recently co-starred on the final season of ER.
If you recall, several months ago we gave you the latest info we heard about the new film titled Jumping The Broom starring Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Mike Epps, DeRay Davis and Loretta Devine just to name a few.
