If you happened to read our latest issue then the man we are about to introduce you to will not be a surprise. But if you missed it, than the following man (who happens to be one of Hollywood’s best kept secrets) will completely shock you as he is one of the highest ranking African American executives in Hollywood.
Starting out as a production assistant over 10 years ago on a Will Smith film, DeVon Franklin was literally trying to make it in Hollywood with only his faith and what he wanted to accomplish as his goals. Unlike the millions of people who come to Hollywood annually, Franklin knew what he wanted, walked by faith, and witnessed the production of his faith create opportunities for him.
What opportunities you ask? Well let’s look at what the production of his faith afforded him.
September 2012 rolls around and Franklin has now worked on several films (Jumping the Broom, the Karate Kid remake, and The Pursuit of Happyness just to name a few), chatted with Oprah Winfrey on her infamous couch, published a new book, become an Elder at his Church (he was raised a Seventh-day Adventist), becomes a motivational speaker AND marries actress Meagan Good.
Most surprisingly though, he is climbs the corporate ladder in Hollywood and is now the Senior Vice President of Sony/Columbia Tri-Star Pictures.
What happened in between to get him to be where he is today? Well, to answer that question and tons of other questions that came quickly to mind we got a chance to sit down with him and discuss those things and his career. When we spoke to him one thing continued to come up in the conversation; his faith.
In one of the most inspirational interviews we have ever conducted, Franklin discusses his journey, his walk by faith, and how his new book (coincidentally titled Produced By Faith) can open up your eyes to accomplish your goals too.
